Spreading Hope: RecruitCo Staff Meets Kids Kicking Cancer

Empowering Children Battling Cancer Through Breathing Techniques and Support

In a heartwarming encounter that left our team inspired, RecruitCo staff recently had the privilege of meeting with Moses, a remarkable individual from Kids Kicking Cancer (KCC) at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Soweto. Our time spent with Moses and the courageous children battling cancer was truly eye-opening, shedding light on the incredible work being done to empower these young warriors.

Moses, a dedicated instructor at KCC, introduced us to a group of children who are facing cancer head-on. Through specialized breathing techniques, Moses prepares them for their chemotherapy sessions, providing them with valuable tools to manage pain, anxiety, and fear. Witnessing the transformation of these children as they harnessed the power of their breath was nothing short of extraordinary.

During our visit, we were touched by the strength and resilience of both the children and their parents. Some families had travelled from the North West to receive treatment, demonstrating the lengths they would go to ensure their children received the best possible care. It was heartwarming to learn that the hospital provides tea and sandwiches for the parents while they wait, offering a small comfort during this challenging time.

Moses also shared with us the profound impact of KCC’s work. He explained that the survival rate for these brave children is currently at 50%. Although this statistic may seem discouraging, Moses emphasized the importance of providing hope and support to these children. By sharing both sad and successful stories, he highlighted the power of resilience and the incredible achievements made by some of the children in their battle against cancer.

One aspect that particularly touched us was Moses’ dedication to ensuring the hospitalized children also receive support. He mentioned his plan to take us to the ward on our next visit, where we will have the opportunity to meet children who are unable to leave the hospital. Many of them are from distant regions like Limpopo and have been separated from their parents for extended periods of time. These visits serve as a beacon of hope for these children, rekindling their will to fight and reminding them that they are not alone.

Our encounter with Kids Kicking Cancer and Moses was truly remarkable. It opened our eyes to the strength and resilience exhibited by these children and their families. We left with a renewed sense of hope, knowing that organizations like KCC are making a tangible difference in the lives of those facing such adversity.

As a company, RecruitCo is committed to supporting initiatives that bring hope and positivity into the lives of others. We are proud to have had the opportunity to meet Moses and the inspiring children of Kids Kicking Cancer. We encourage everyone to join us in spreading awareness and supporting organizations like KCC that make a profound impact on the lives of children battling cancer.

In the face of adversity, these children have shown us the true meaning of bravery. Let their stories be a reminder that hope and strength can flourish even in the most challenging circumstances. Together, we can make a difference and bring a ray of light into the lives of those who need it most.
